ВМС США 🪖 Navy Awards $76.6B for 14 New Attack and Missile Submarines The U.S. Navy has awarded $76.6 billion for the construction of 14 submarines — nine Virginia-class Block VI attack submarines (~$42B) and five Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines (~$30B) — along with funding for shipyard infrastructure, workforce support, and supply chains. Contracts were awarded to General Dynamics Electric Boat and Huntington Ingalls Industries. Vice Adm. Robert Gaucher said the deal ensures "continuous production of both the Columbia and Virginia classes" and will "deliver the world's most lethal, survivable and resilient combat platform" while providing "long-term stability to our shipbuilding industrial base." The awards come as Navy submarine programs face persistent delays, cost overruns, and workforce shortages. Shipbuilders have long urged the Navy to provide more predictable orders to help hire and retain workers. The Navy is also exploring shipbuilding cooperation with South Korea and Japan, and automation to ease labor constraints. Source
